I‘m not sure what we just paid for - to be honest it is completely overpriced and you get rushed trough some tunnels because it’s not really a natural cave it’s more like an old mine connected to a few small natural cave hall‘s - the stuff is friendly but tries to rush you trough the 1.3 km mine. All at all not worth it - we did Terra Mystica a week before and had a really great experience.

Very cool place, both literally and figuratively 😉

When we visited, it was about 30 °C outside and around 8 °C in the caves. I recommend bringing along a sweater, especially for children!

Tip: Make your reservation in advance!
Notice: Not wheelchair accessible!

The information on the Google map is not correct. I looked at the Google map and saw that the place was open, so I went there. After driving for 30 km, I came across a place that was closing, and when I asked the staff member to provide the correct opening hours on the Google map, they responded in a rude manner, saying that they didn't care about the Google map and that I should have called them on their phone. I don't know about the cave itself, but the staff member was terrible. My mood was ruined, and I couldn't get my vacation time back.

Mixed feelings about the experience: The flowstone parts of the cave are very nice to look at, the lighting is well done and playing Bachs Toccata and Fugue in D Minor to demonstrate the perfect acoustics is a stroke of genius. If you have never been to a flowstone cave, I think it will be a tremendous thing.

But: The major part of the underground network of tunnels is the old ore mine - to advertise it mainly as a flowstone cave is rather far fetched. It is the other way round: It is mainly a mine complex that touches a cave system of which you can see some small chambers.

The underground "lake" as it is advertised does indeed also look quite nice, but it is a rather tiny affair - you have to kneel down and put your head to the side to sneak a peak at the relatively tiny pool of water a few centimeters deep and stretching visibly only a few meters into the rock. Explaining that and the discrepancy to the image they are implicitly creating at the ticket booth to the visitors was perceptibly a rather awkward moment for the guide.

The advertising pictures have probably been made by a very experienced hotel pool fotographer: They also make the tiniest pools appear like a mid-size ocean. 😉

The guided tour in itself is a bit of a rush, the guide has all in all not very much to say.

For all that the tickets are quite expensive.

Had it not rained on the day of our visit and had I known beforehand what I would get to see, I wouldn't have spent the money.

We've been to caves in Germany, Slovenia and Croatia that are indeed flowstone caves only: Larger, much more impressive, better tour guide concept, more information, cheaper ticket prices. And no necessity to drive two times 25 minutes around in a bus to get to the cave and back.

Before going, be aware of:
The tour is ONLY in German, and if you want it at least in English you must pay €2 for an audio guide (i know is not expensive but no ones says that!)
Even if they say in some reviews that they rush you through it, is not fully like that, and i think depends on the guide, the one we got, was super passionate, you can hear it (even if you don’t understand *anything*! ) but she took the time and replied every question the people had; on the other hand, there are some little things to look at and she doesn’t stop for that, you must stop by yourself and take your time.
Then, they say dogs are not allow inside the cave, but at the desk office where you buy the ticket, before paying i asked ifmy small dog was allowed in the bus and outside the cave, she friendly said “yes, outside is more than ok”
At the time the bus arrived they started making a big drama for the dog, when we explained that we won’t brong it inside the cave, only outside and that we asked to the woman at the desk, the guy went to talk with them, and then they come to us with a weird approach, that dogs were not allowed in the cave, so i told her friendly that we knew and we asked to her and her colleague and both say that was ok to be outside, then the guy who was controlling the tickets was talking bad behind our backs, which I found terrible (some nice friendly guests translated what he told, later on in the bus), and he was all time trying to find somthing to keep us out of the bus, but not even trying to gave us the money back, only trying that we keep the dog “somewhere”. We can’t let her inside a cat for 3hs , is insane! So we had her with us and up in the mountains the crew from the mines/caves were friendly and theyeven gave us more water in a little bucket for her. (We have had a special bottle with water for her, and let it with her but they wanted to give us extra).
So if you have a dog, be chill, you will feel a little bad down there at the office, but later on up there they really like them and kind of take care of your dog.
The activity itself? Was ok, not super special, and what about the big pool of water you see in those pictures? Well, don’t expect too much, you must go on your knees to took a glance through a whole, hahaha, not a big deal!
Idk if it worth the money.

A very nice change in scenery for the children. The tour is nice, though it's in German. If you want to listen to it in English, you have to buy the audio guide, which is, to be honest, quite useless, but can add to the experience. The tour takes about Two hours. Consider that the temperatures inside the cave are a little cold, so take a sweatshirt or a light coat.

It was a spectacular cave. Very friendly guide. However, the cave has a lot of stairs up and down, so it is not suitable for wheelchair users or people who have a hard time doing stairs. Inside it is quite cold, even in the summer. So it's a good idea to wear warm clothes. The last part of the tour is a small walk back down through a forest path. It's worth wearing proper shoes both for the warmth and for the walk. Bare in mind that it is not allowed to take photos inside the cave.
